The 5th APEC SEN Steering Council Meeting: Advancing Maritime Excellence

The 5th APEC Seafarers Excellence Network (SEN) Steering Council Meeting (SCM5) was held virtually on 15 February, 2023, with 51 participants from 10 APEC economies. Key initiatives focused on maritime leadership, gender equality, and seafarers’ welfare.

The Republic of Korea unveiled an onboard training program aimed at fostering young maritime leaders, with at least 10 female cadets among 40 participants. Mexico highlighted efforts to promote gender equality and proposed translating APEC SEN mental health materials into Spanish for Latin American seafarers.

The council endorsed updates to its Terms of Reference and explored plans for new collaboration and research centers. APEC SEN reaffirmed its commitment to advancing inclusivity and leadership in the maritime sector.
