Goals of APEC SEN

under APEC Connectivity Blueprint 2015-2025

As an inclusive, high-quality source of guidance and support under the umbrella of the TPTWG, APEC SEN will meet the demands of the current and emerging needs of the shipping industry, while ensuring a high degree of work-life balance for seafarers onboard as well as onshore. It directly supports the goals set out by APEC Transport Ministers in the 2023 Transport Ministerial Meeting Chair’s Statement, the APEC Connectivity Blueprint 2015-2025, and the Putrajaya Vision 2040 with the following focuses on:

.1 Strengthening seafarers’ employability through online and offline maritime education and training;

.2 Ensuring that APEC seafarers are prepared to address changes in their industry, including decarbonization efforts and the growing use of technology, through upskilling and reskilling;

.3 Ensuring better welfare of seafarers by prompting implementation of international instruments concerned collectively;

.4 Promoting greater inclusion and quality growth of women seafarers in the maritime industry in line with the La Serena Roadmap for Women and Inclusive Growth (2019-2030).
