
APEC SEN 6th Steering Council Meeting and Experts Group Meeting Held in Busan
– Discussion on the topics of Seafarer Education, Welfare, and Career Development in the APEC Region –
APEC Seafarers Excellence Network(Secretary General Mr. Min Jong Kim) announced the successful host of 6th APEC SEN Steering Committee and Experts Meeting from September 9 to 11 to discuss comprehensive issues related to seafarers in the APEC region.
Held in Yeongdo-gu, Busan, this meeting included discussions on the future direction of APEC SEN, along with presentations and discussions based on the themes of three expert groups. Over the course of the meeting, the following topics were discussed in depth: Expert Group 1) Challenges of Maritime Education and Training with New Emerging Standards and Technologies, Expert Group 2) Advancing Job Appeal for Asia-Pacific Seafarers: Safeguarding Rights and Enhancing Welfare, Expert Group 3) Navigation Technology and High-quality Development of Seafarer.
A total of 44 representatives and speakers from 10 APEC member economies including seafarer policy makers, experts from related organizations, and the APEC Transport Working Group members attended the meeting. The discussions were centered around the development of seafarer education, welfare, and career paths, reaffirming the importance of seafarers in the Asia-Pacific region and providing a platform for in-depth discussions on future international cooperation.
Mr. Min Jong Kim, President of the Korea Institute of Maritime and Fisheries Technology and Secretary General of APEC SEN, stated, “Through this meeting, we hope to strengthen the network among seafarer-related institutions in the Asia-Pacific region and work together to shape a brighter future for the maritime industry, thereby offering more benefits to seafarers in the APEC community.
